At University in the UK I found a book called textures in nature. It was such an inspirational book for embroidering texture. The most striking image was of a tree called Arbutus. The bright orange of the bark and lime green branches and the peeling blew me away. I presumed the tree would be in country I would barley know it seemed so exotic. To find myself living in the home of Arbutus right here on the West coast of Canada is a privilege. I feel so lucky.
My favourite arbutuses here on the sunshine coast are always a pleasure to visit. The beautiful scars and wrinkles are perfection and they were the inspiration for this vessel, which started out as a 2D
Embroidery and became a 3D vessel! The textures come alive when its spherical!
