Coral Cornucopia

Inspired by ceramic artists and wood carvers to create sculpted shapes without seams or darts, I set my self the challenge to create a curved silhouette vessel sculpted from stitched thread, no seams or darts.

The other challenge with this piece was to add lots of colour.

Coral Cornucopia is made entirely from stitched silk thread (approx. 40, 000 metres). I used natural silk and then hand dyed it once the stitching was complete. The colour scheme was inspired by the great barrier reef. The dyes were painted to the sculpture to allow natural and organic flow between them.
